Current areas of Saiga Habitat are Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Russia and Mongolia. In 2002, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) added to the list of endangered species.
The decline in population is mainly due to illegal fishing (due to centuries) and infectious diseases. The other is climate variability. A harsh winter with strong winds or high snow cover disables feeding on the grass under heavy snow.
