The dog who was tied to the bike and forced to run for a long time that it collapsed is now in good hands. The white bull-hole, which is now called Penelope, is not only pulled by the cruel men, allegedly also beaten when it did not get up and left to die. She was rescued by good Samaritans who rushed to help her and called the Detroit Dog Rescue (DRE) to help.
When Detroit Dog Rescue picked her up they rushed her to the vet. “She has bruises on her, is completely dehydrated, and seems to be giving up. We are getting fluids in her now and learning more about her story,” the animal rescue group wrote on Facebook June 23, 2017.
“She is fighting, but being thrown every obstacle in her path,” the group said after learning that Penelope also had an infected uterus and was heartworm positive. “She’s exhausted after being forced to run until she collapsed, allegedly beaten, and left for dead.”
"Penelope has had to have too mny puppies in this short period of time, and there are great fears about her womb," said Detroit's Doug Rysko. "It is very possible that she will be in surgery to correct the neglect she has received throughout her life. Heartworm complicates things so much, so we have a team of doctors and Christina make the decision to go ahead and do an echocardiogram today. We will keep everyone updated. "
Penelope is likely to be used as a breeding dog by backyard breeders, or possibly dog fighters.
After a weekend in critical care it seems that Penelope is almost ready to leave the hospital and go to foster care. Detroit Doug Rescue workers and volunteers will also investigate the hope of finding men who abused Penelope. Anyone with any information to contact the rescue is urged.
"She has a long way to go, but we are very proud of the strength and determination she still has," she said.
