Perhaps the most famous facts about Ireland are that they are completely snake-free. The fossil record of Ireland is completely devoid of the effects of snakes or their remains, which means that thousands of years ago there were no snakes in Ireland or Britain, although eventually three types of snakes appeared in Britain: the grass snake, the Adder snake and the smooth snake.
Because of this strange truth about Ireland, many legends have emerged, some of which have become so famous that many have believed them! Of these legends, St. Patrick denied all the snakes from the Emerald Island and chased them in the sea from the top of a rocky cliff when Christianity entered Ireland! But who believes such nonsense ?!
