This robot conductor conducted a whole concert in Italy
He is a very special conductor and conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Lucca, Italy. His name: YuMi. Its particularity: it is a humanoid robot. This experiment was carried out on September 12 at the first International Robotics Festival in Pisa, Italy.
Programmed to remember the movements of the usual conductor, Andrea Colombini, the robot repeats with extreme precision. However, YuMi is unable to improvise or adapt to unforeseen changes. During this unique concert, the robot was a sensation and stole the stars with whom he shared the stage as Andrea Bocelli. This is not the first time a robot has conducted an orchestra. On 17 May 2008, the experiment was carried out at the City of Science and Industry of La Villette, Paris. An articulated arm had directed the nine musicians of the Urban Orchestra project.
